Scripture Lesson: Mark 10:46-52
Object: A Blindfold
I am going to use this handkerchief for a blindfold. (Place it on one of the children.) "Can you see?" It is a real problem to be blind, isn't it? Many non-seeing person become quite remarkable getting around their homes and even on the streets, but is certainly a disadvantage not to be able to see. There are two kinds of blindness in the Bible. One is physical blindness. The other is spiritual. Do you remember a little nursery rhyme that goes like this: "Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat, where have you been? I've been to London, to look at the queen. Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat, what did you see there? I saw a little mouse under her chair." The pussy cat could see with its eyes, couldn't it?
Yet here it was in the royal castle and the only thing it could see
was a mouse hiding under the
Queen's chair. That is all the cat was interested in, so a mouse is
all it saw. That's true in life. We see what we are looking for.
If we look for good things. We see good things. Everyone is blind in some
fashion or another even if their eyes have perfect vision. We choose what
we see. Let's look only for the best in other people. And let's look for
the love that God has placed in our world.
Dear Jesus help us to want to see the beautiful things in life. Amen
